Insights · Location context

Location and site context, profiled at area level.

Understand the surroundings of a store, site, or candidate location with area-level profiles of grid cells and postal codes, compared against regional and national baselines.

The question

What is the context around a site, and how does it compare with our best locations?

Location context describes what surrounds a store, site, or candidate location, measured with area-level signals rather than device data. It helps teams compare candidates with their strongest existing locations on the same terms.

What you get

  • Profiles of the grid cells and postal codes around each location
  • Indexes against regional and national baselines
  • The top drivers behind every area’s profile

Typical uses

Screen candidate locations before site visits, compare formats across a network, brief real estate partners with consistent area profiles, or check how the context around an existing site has changed over time.

How it works

From brief to area-level output in three steps.

  1. Name the locations

Share existing sites, candidate locations, or both, plus the signals that matter for your format or category.

  2. AreaSignal profiles the surroundings

The grid cells and postal codes around each location are profiled with area-level signals and compared with regional and national baselines.

  3. Compare locations side by side

You receive a profile per location with indexes and top drivers, so candidates can be compared on the same terms.

FAQ

Common questions.

Does AreaSignal choose locations for us?

No. AreaSignal provides area context and comparable profiles. The location decision stays with your expansion or real estate team.

How is this different from catchment analysis?

Location context compares the immediate surroundings of individual sites against baselines. Catchment analysis profiles every area inside radius or drive-time bands across a network.

Why use grid cells?

Regular grid cells give comparable units around a point, regardless of postal-code size. Postal codes and regions are available for roll-ups.

Is footfall or device data used?

No. Profiles use aggregated area-level data only. AreaSignal does not use device location data or individual movement histories.
